For yet another year, Valencia's special connection to music transforms the International Wind Band Contest into a great city event. Since its beginnings in 1886, the continued success of this musical gathering has made it the most important wind band contest in the world.
These music groups have a deep-rooted tradition in our province and are part of our local culture. It is for this reason that the Valencia Provincial Council gives their unconditional support to this important legacy which both identifies us as a people and is evidence of the close historical relationship between Valencians and music.
Music is joy and passion; emotions which characterize our collective personality and make music a way of life for the thousands of Valencians who belong to bands.
As President of the Valencia Provincial Council I would like to welcome to our province all the musicians, their families and friends who will come to visit us these summer days to enjoy the Contest. At the same time I invite them to discover the beautiful countryside of our inland areas, our unending golden, sandy beaches and our exquisite cuisine.
The success of the Contest in previous years suggests that the 126th edition of the International Wind Band Contest "City of Valencia" will be equally popular and will strengthen the important role that wind bands have had in the music world, and still have today.
