Sociedad Musical de Tous
HISTORY OF THE BAND
This Ribera Alta Music Association was founded in 1980 and performed for the first time during the 1981 Easter celebrations in Tous.
Its past presidents are Santiago Gómez Olmos, Hilario Mateu Martorell and Antonio Doménech Briz. Its current president is Juan Francisco Martorell Martorell.
The Band took part in three Valencia Provincial Contests in 1990, 1994 and 1995. Every year they participate in local festivals and the "Retrobem la Nostra Música" campaign, taking part in many exchanges and meetings with other music associations and schools.
They have collaborated in audio and film recordings as well as in local festivities such as local festivals, Fallas and Moors and Christians parades.
The group has had two directors: José Gómez Simón from its foundation until 2004, and Eduardo Sala Albelda from 2004 to the present.
The Music Association's main activity is the development and promotion of musical culture. Their one-off, extraordinary performances include: playing at the Oceanogràfic in the Valencia City of Arts and Sciences in May 2010; a special concert in the Valencia Palau de la Música in September 2011, and parading in the Mestalla football stadium in January 2011.
Moreover, they support concerts by chamber music groups (Tous Brass Quintet, 2009-2010-2011), collaborate with local cultural bodies (Tous Sant Miquel Choir), perform in light concerts (their collaboration with the local singer, "Kairo" in November 2011) and organize contests and workshops (Jazz and Modern Music Workshops in 2009, 2010 and 2011).
In 2012 they took part in the band contest organized by the Valencia Provincial Government.
