CRISTÓBAL SOLER ALMUDEVER Cristóbal Soler Almudever was born in Alcásser (Valencia) and began studying Orchestra Direction with his maestro and mentor, José Mª Cervera Collado, with whom he has worked on many occasions as assistant director.
He went on to complete his advanced studies in Composition and Orchestra Direction and received a master's degree in Orchestra Direction from the University of Madrid; in both cases he received the highest marks possible.
Cristóbal Soler is the Principal Musical Director of the "Lírico" National Operetta Theater and Principal Guest Conductor of the Classical "Santa Cecilia" Orchestra from Madrid.
After receiving an official invitation from Reiner Bischof, the General Secretary of the Wiener Symphoniker, he moved to Vienna, where he worked as assistant director for two seasons and had the unique opportunity to study the skill of great directors such as Wofgang Sawallisch, George Prêtre, Vladimir Fedoseyev and Mariss Jansons.
He later met Nikolaus Harnoncourt, who invited him to attend his rehearsals during the 2003-04 season, both in Vienna and Graz, Berlin and Zurich.
During this decade, as well as continuing his training in Central Europe, he began to consolidate his position as a conductor in Spain by directing some of the country's most famous orchestras, such as the Radio Televisión Española Orchestra, the Galicia Symphony Orchestra, the Navarre Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Region of Madrid, and the Catalonia National Orchestra, performing in auditoriums and concert halls of such stature as the Palau de les Arts, the Madrid National Music Auditorium, the Catalonia Palau de la Música, and the Pamplona Baluarte Auditorium. He has also conducted in other countries in Europe, including various concerts with the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra during the Victoria Hall season in Geneva and in the Salle Metrópol in Lausanne.
He is regarded as one of the most important conductors of his generation. His successful lyrical career has led him to direct an extensive repertoire, particularly works from the repertoire of Spanish lyrical theater. He has given special attention to recovering little-known lyrical works, performing and recording recovered historical music. Consequently, he has been invited on numerous occasions to act as the musical director of lyrical productions in the Valencia Principal Theater, the Oviedo Campoamor Theater, the Villamarta Theater and the last three seasons of the Operetta Theater.
Moreover, he has completed several national and international tours, including a tour of Austria, working in concert halls such as the Mozarteum in Salzburg and the Austria Center in Vienna.
He was the youngest conductor to direct a concert with the Valencia Orchestra, with which is still maintains a productive relationship as a guest musical director. He was the musical-artistic director and the founder of the Philharmonic Orchestra of the University of Valencia (1995-2010) with which he won First Prize in the International Youth Symphony Orchestra Contest, held in Vienna in 1998. He currently teaches the Orchestra Direction Diploma (a postgraduate course) at said university. |
